about

Released in 1996, this was the high-water mark for Indigo Husk - an immaculately-recorded, deeply intelligent album that covered many moods yet still felt completely coherent and focused. The lineup for this album was Robert Mynard (bass), James Capt (drums), Andrew Petersen (guitar, b/vox) and Frank E. Roveta (vocals, guitar). The band had by now almost completely subsumed their influences, and were delivering a brand of thoughtful rock that was entirely their own. Live, they were often ferocious, but on record they relaxed enough to display the various styles they had mastered, from the swirling psychedelia of 45 Degrees to the almost-countryish Will I Still Be Bruised and the atmospheric rock of Slow Grind. In particular, Frank Roveta's vocals were pushed forward, displaing just how great and expressive a singer he had become, while the songs were propelled by James Capt's beautifully minimalist drumming. Reviews were unanimously gushing, with the album described as one of the most exciting/promising/striking/sophisticated releases of the year. Radio play? Nope. Sales? Not many. A success? Definitely.
